How Busy Mums Can Use AI to Make Life Easier: 3 Game-Changing Ways to Get Started

By Lisa Collette

AI for mums with Lisa

As a mum of three and mumpreneur, I'm always looking for ways to streamline the mental load that comes with managing a busy family. Recently, I've discovered that AI tools (like ChatGPT, Claude, and others) can be absolute lifesavers for everyday mum tasks. And the best part? They're free and incredibly easy to use!

I'm starting a new series here on LeeLee Loves all about practical ways mums can use AI to save time, reduce stress, and make family life run more smoothly.

This isn't just about sharing my day-to-day life anymore – I'm on a mission to help other mums better theirs and pave the way for mums in the world of AI. Today, I'm sharing my top 3 ways to get started, with simple prompts you can copy and paste right away.

1. Smart Food Shopping & Meal Planning

Gone are the days of staring blankly into the fridge at 5pm wondering what to make for tea! AI can create weekly meal plans based on your budget, dietary needs, and what you've already got in the cupboards.

How to do it:

  • Open ChatGPT, Claude, or any free AI chat tool
  • Copy one of the prompts below and adjust it to your family's needs
  • Get a complete meal plan with shopping list in seconds

Prompts to try:

"Create a weekly meal plan for a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children) with a £100 shopping budget. Include 7 dinners, packed lunch ideas, and a complete Tesco shopping list organised by aisle."

"I have chicken breasts, pasta, tinned tomatoes, and frozen veg in my kitchen. Give me 3 quick family dinner ideas using these ingredients plus basic store cupboard items."

"Plan 5 budget-friendly slow cooker meals for busy weeknights. Include prep instructions and a shopping list for Aldi."

Top tip: Take a photo of your fridge and cupboards, upload it to the AI, and ask "What meals can I make with these ingredients?" – it's brilliant for reducing food waste!

2. Managing School Diary Dates & Family Calendar

If you're anything like me, keeping track of World Book Day, non-uniform days, parents' evenings, and after-school clubs can feel overwhelming. AI can help you organise it all.

How to do it:

  • Forward school newsletters or letters to yourself
  • Copy the text into your AI tool
  • Ask it to extract and organise all the important dates

Prompts to try:

"Here's our school newsletter paste text. Extract all important dates, events, and deadlines, and create a formatted calendar list I can add to my phone."

"I have these upcoming events: list events and dates. Create a weekly preparation checklist so I remember costumes, baking, and permission slips on time."

"Help me write a reminder system for my three children's different school schedules. Child 1 has swimming on Mondays, Child 2 has football on Wednesdays, Child 3 has dance on Thursdays. Create a weekly prep list of what needs to be packed each day."

Bonus tip: Once you have your organised list, ask the AI to "create reminders in a format I can import to Google Calendar" – it'll give you properly formatted entries you can quickly add!

3. Quick Party Planning & Activity Ideas

Whether it's a rainy day activity, birthday party planning, or keeping the kids entertained during school holidays, AI is like having a creative assistant on call 24/7.

How to do it:

  • Tell the AI your child's age, interests, and any constraints (budget, time, location)
  • Get instant ideas tailored to your needs

Prompts to try:

"Give me 10 indoor activities for rainy days suitable for children aged 3, 7, and 9. Include things I can do with items already at home."

"Plan a dinosaur-themed 5th birthday party for 15 children with a £150 budget. Include games, food ideas, decoration suggestions, and a shopping list."

"I need 5 educational but fun activities to do with my children this weekend in the North West of England. Weather forecast is mixed. Budget £50 for the family."

"Create a treasure hunt for my 7-year-old around our house and garden with 10 clues and small challenges."

Getting Started is Easy!

The beauty of AI tools is that they're conversational – if you don't like the first answer, just say "make it simpler" or "give me more budget-friendly options" and it'll adjust. Think of it like texting a really knowledgeable friend who never gets tired of your questions!

My favourite free AI tools for mums:

  • ChatGPT (chatgpt.com)
  • Claude (claude.ai)
  • Google Gemini (gemini.google.com)

All work on your phone or computer, and you don't need to be tech-savvy to use them.
